My '04 Infiniti G35 was ready for the 90K service that required an ATF drain OR flush. I opted for the full flush, since I wanted to get ALL the old fluid out and replaced instead of just draining 4 qts and refilling, immediately contaminating the new fluid. Although there are aftermarket brands that make multi-use atf fluids, I opted to stick with the factory Matic J, (now Matic S) ATF fluid to do the full flush. Although an engine will benefit from the use of synthetic fluids, a trans relies heavily on the proper friction between fluids/bands/plates which is critical to allow proper + firm gearshifts, and I thought an any make/all-types ATF fluid wouldn't be the way to go. The trans takes around 12 quarts, my mechanic advised me to buy 16 qts for the tranny flush to completely flush all the old fluid out. He ended up using 15 qts for the flush, and the tranny seems to shift firmer than before the flush. Other places online sell this Matic J/S fluid, but I didn't find a better price.
